Bremsstrahlung Recordings has a nifty Web site designed by Fällt that emulates the old System 6 Macintosh operating system. It’s a slavish imitation, actually, which is pretty amusing, though it would’ve been a home run if they’d done it in Flash and given the interface some real responsiveness.

With every effort, I’m trying to maintain reasonable expectations for “Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones.” Though I’ve avoided reading any reviews, the critics seem to be dimissive. On the other hand, everybody I know who’s seen it so far thinks it’s a great improvement over the last installment. I just want to get carried away for two hours when I see it tonight at 10:30p.

Iain Lamb and Ethan Diamond thought it was a good idea to create the cleverest Web-based mail application ever. Oddpost is a remarkably fast and clean DHTML-based interface that puts Hotmail, Yahoo! Mail, et. al. to shame. The only thing is, it won’t work on Macs.

The latest addition to my hardware family is the Epson Stylus C80 color printer. The reviews for it have been uniformly excellent and the price is a steal (US$150 after rebate) — and yet I’m wondering if I really need or even want this thing. Since losing my job last fall and going on the start-your-own-business frugality plan, I’ve been averse to making large purchases and it feels uncomfortable to make one like this that, while nice to have, is not entirely necessary. Right now the printer box is sitting on my floor, still unopened.

Vindigo, one of the best pieces of software for the Palm OS ever, is moving to a subscription model. My prediction: Walking from free, ad-based revenue model, go South on fee-based subscription model road (the first street you should pass is massive subscriber defection). Proceed for 6 to 8 months. Turn right on Mergers & Acquisitions Boulevard and go 100 yards to Citysearch.com.

The Hewlett-Packard shareholder vote on the proposed HP/Compaq merger is tomorrow. This kind of corporate intrigue is fascinating and I’m on the edge of my seat — and against the whole idea as I’m usually against most mergers.
