Barcelona design student Marc Exposito created this impressive project as part of his thesis: a universal control interface for Internet of Things devices that uses simple drawing as a means of user input. If you want to turn on a light, you draw a primitive shape that represents the light (exactly which shape is apparently user-definable; in the video, the user points the iPad’s camera at a lamp and draws a circle over it to link the object and symbol) and draw a simple line with a dot at the end to turn it on. To change the color of the light, just select a color and scribble inside the circle. Multiple objects can be controlled at once, all via this simple visual vocabulary. Pretty impressive.
