Faking Food Photography

Art director Sally Suffield and photographer Dan Matthews reveal some of the tricks that go into making food photography look preternaturally appealing. Each of the images in this collaboration between the two shows a beautifully composed food subject—a hunk of meat, a bowl of ice cream, a plate of cookies—next to some of the unexpected tools that went into styling it for the camera. Items include glue, tape, bubble wrap, mechanical oil, hair spray, paint and more.
